Hello 2nd Grade Families!
I hope you enjoyed this suprise snow day! From what I gather, plenty of kiddos needed time to rest! Our class was hit hard with flu and stomach bugs. I hope the extra day helped them rest up for the next four days packed full of learning! Please share with your children the importance of washing their hands at school, covering their mouth when they sneeze and cough, and using hand sanitizer often. I also encourage them to drink lots of water at school to keep them healthy! They are always welcome to keep a water bottle at school.
We have so much going on in December, so here is a quick snapshot of what we are working on and some important dates!
In math, we are continuing our work with addition and subtraction with regrouping. We will also dive into place value just before Winter Break. In Science, we are studying force and motion, as well as the simple machines. All of this scientific work has tied into our writing unit. You might have heard stories about the kids catapulting objects around the classroom... they did awesome things with their simple machines! Then they wrote amazing lab reports about them. We will continue our writing unit to discover different ways to write like an expert in other science areas. In reading we are developing our deeper thinking skills with inference strategies. We will also spend a little time working on writing friendly letters and signing our names in cursive!! (get ready for your kids to sign their autograph everywhere. all the time. You're welcome:)
Here are a few important events coming up:
Adopt A Family
Our Adopt A Family collection campaign is still going strong!!! We are continuing to collect all items for another week: canned food, paper products, cleaning products, and personal care items. I'd love to see our class reach their goal. They set a goal to bring in 230 items (10 per kiddo) and they are amazing at reaching and passing up their goals!! At the last count we were only half way there. If each kiddo can bring in 5 or more items, we can make it! A pizza party is waiting for them when they reach their goal!!
You can also still make a donation through the giving tree sign up genius.
Wacky Hair Day
Friday is Wacky Hair Day! Bring in at least $1 for Adopt-A-Family and wear some crazy hair!!! During Jingles for Jammies at the beginning of the campaign, our class brought in the most money for the whole school - can we do it again?!?!
Winter Musical
The Winter Musical is this Sunday at Lindbergh High School Auditorium. Please have your child meet me in the lobby of the auditorium, dressed and ready to go no later than 2:45 pm. They will line up for the show there. I'm excited to see it!!
