Greetings 2nd Grade Families!
I hope you are surviving Snow Day #6,847! Never in a million years could I have imagined a winter like this! I feel like Disney may have had a hand in this weather, with the movie Frozen making it's mark this year. Hopefully this is the end! I see warmer weather in the forecast and I'm ready for it to stay! As soon as we know how this latest snow day will change the calendar, I relay that information to you.
I want to also thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers, and all the kind emails and messages last week. It was a very difficult week for me and my family. We are glad to be getting back to a little bit of normalcy tomorrow. I appreciate your support while I had to be away for the funeral services.
I'm looking forward to meeting with some of you at conferences on Thursday evening. Spring conferences are not required - however this is a great opportunity to address any concerns or questions about how things have gone this year or what to expect next year in third grade for your child. I have plenty of spaces open, so please feel free to set up a time to meet with me! I will be sending home confirmation of your time tomorrow.
Math
This week, we will continue to practice many the skills we have been building on for the last couple of weeks. We will take our test on Subtraction with Regrouping on Wednesday. If you would like to help your child practice this at home, they should be able to subtract larger numbers (304 - 179) and use addition to check their work. We are also continuing to practice telling time and making change.
Reading
We will continue to work with questions "within" the text. These kinds of questions show our understanding by retelling a story, putting events in order, and describing details about characters, setting, problem, and solution. We are also working on how to write a response to these types of questions.
Writing
This week we will take a step back from writing letters about our learning and start writing book nominations. Students will be choosing a book and convincing their audience why it is the best book. We will eventually be publishing these pieces of writing! We also hope to continue writing letters and soon be writing letters to our favorite authors!
Social Studies
Please remember that timelines are due tomorrow! If your child needs an extra day to finish it, please just let me know - we will not get through all of the presentations in one day anyways.
Here's a look ahead at some important dates:
