This has been an extremely fun week at Concord! We celebrated Red Ribbon Week and we wrapped up our Cookie Dough Fundraiser! We raised a lot of money for our school and earned a lot of monkeys along the way! Thank you so much for participating in both of those activities. The kids had a blast! Next week is also going to be crazy busy - but tons of fun! Please be sure to read all of the notes below so you are aware of what's happening in our classroom next week!
For Red Ribbon Week we talked about making healthy choices - saying no to smoking and drugs, and making healthy choices a habit in our lives - drinking lots of water, washing our hands, getting plenty of rest, and many other good choices.
In math, we have continued to stretch our knowledge of addition and subtraction strategies. We focused on 2-digit addition this week. We have learned several ways to add 2-digit numbers using mental math including counting on by ones and counting on by tens. Next week we will focus on regrouping! Oh boy!
In reading we are working on visualizing the story. Good readers have a picture in their head when they are reading a story - like a movie. This we read the story "The Paper Boy" and visualized what the illustrations might be. Then we illustrated parts of the story.
In writing, we are nearing the end of our unit on Personal Narratives, or "small moment" stories. Students have been working hard on developing closings and using "craft moves" in their writing!

Halloween Parties will be on Thursday. Students should NOT wear their costume to school. They will change after lunch! I repeat - please do not wear costumes to school! Thank you ;)
