Weekly Notes!

Hello Second Grade Families!

We have so many exciting things going on in our classroom. In math we are wrapping up Chapter 5, working with addition strategies. There are many ways to look at adding two and three numbers together. We will take our test on Monday. In science, we finished Chapter 1 learning about how to be a scientist and ask question about the world around us. This week, we will start our second science chapter learning about living things. Most importantly, we get to start learning about our butterflies! We have five butterflies living on the top of the file cabinets. We will be keeping track of their growth everyday in our butterfly journals! In writing, we are continuing work on our personal narratives and developing a small moment story. It has been so much fun hearing these stories and watching them develop their writing like professional authors! In reading we are continuing to work on making connections to ourselves and other texts.


Here are a few things to keep in mind for the upcoming week!

1. Please be sure to complete the reading log calendar, study math facts, and practice word study sorts every night.

2. As the weather gets cooler and more unpredictable, please be sure to send a jacket to school with your child. They are welcome to keep a light jacket or sweatshirt in their cubby, just in case they need it!

3. Parent Teacher conferences are coming soon! There are two evenings dedicated to conferences this fall - Monday 10/28 and Wednesday 10/30 from 4:00 − 7:00 pm. If those dates and times do not work for your family, please let me know and we can work together to find a better day and time. This is an important piece of our partnership in your child's education and I am really looking forward to sharing your child's progress with you!


4. Have you seen our Parent Info page on the blog? Click on "Parents" in the top menu bar to check it out! I have listed articles and information that will hopefully be helpful to you as a parent of a second grader.

5. Scholastic Book Club orders came home last week. This order will be due on Friday October 18th.  Remember that you can always order online through our class account, even outside of the Book Club deadline.
