Weekend Notes!

Hello 2nd Grade Families!

My apologies again for another late blog post - I had a super sick kiddo on Friday! I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! Did anyone get to go to the balloon glow on Friday? It's one of my favorite nights of the year (sad we had to miss it).

This past week we got through a lot of important material and achieved a lot of goals!

In Math, we worked to create graphs and charts using data from a survey. Students practiced making tally charts with the data they collected. Then we made those into pictographs! We had some interesting results about our favorite things!

In writing we took a choice piece through the writing process independently. I was very impressed with our writers ability to revise their work. They were very good at adding more to what they already started! Monday will mark our new beginning into our first Unit of Study in the Lucy Calkin's writing workshop curriculum! I am very excited to bring these 2nd grade writers into the Units of Study. They are so creative and thoughtful in their writing already, I can't wait to see what they can do! We will begin with Narrative Writing and talking about Small Moments.

Just one little note... Friday is always our Library day. The kids have the option of going at other times of the week, but we always go as a class on Friday. If they have books checked out, please be sure to have your child bring them back to school each Friday to be renewed or returned. Thanks!

Also as the weather gets cooler and more unpredictable (Along with our air conditioner that thinks we live in the Arctic) please send a jacket with your child.

A few important dates this week:

***Wednesday is PICTURE DAY! It is also "Be There Day"
Please be sure to return your picture order form before then! If you need a new one, please contact the office.

***Friday there is No School for professional development day.
