Greetings 2nd Grade Families!
I want to thank you for taking time to come to Concord last night for Curriculum Night! I was so glad to be able to share some information with you about 2nd grade and answer your questions. If you were unable to attend, your child brought home a blue folder folder full of papers and information. If you have any questions about anything at all, please call me or send an email!
This was a BUSY week! We had a lot going on and we got a lot accomplished. The kids are doing an excellent job building their stamina in reading and writing. In math, we have been building on our knowledge of numbers and discussing skip counting & even and odd numbers. In social studies we are continuing our unit on communities. In Daily 5 Reading, the 2nd graders proactively worked on Listen to Reading, Read to Some One, and Read to Self. We also talked about coaching our partners when they are stuck on a word, instead of just telling them.
Here are a few reminders for next week:
MONDAY is Labor Day. There is NO SCHOOL on Monday.
Tuesday students, Reading Logs will come home. Please start tracking their reading minutes!
As always, please feel free to email me or give me a call if you have any questions!
Have a fantastic three-day weekend!
Our Week
By Ms. Frederich's 2nd Grade
Thursday August 27th & Friday August 29th 2013
We are excited because our parents are coming to school tonight. We get to stay home and they get to go to school!
We did morning meeting we greeted with the Cool Kids Fist Bump and Greeted each other in Chineese.
We had art today and we made shadows for our pictures. Claire made a hamster hole. Nola made a house. Brett made an ocean. Lydia made the arch.
We did Daily 5. We read for 28 minutes when we were reading to ourselves. We read for 10 minutes during read to someone. Ms. Frederich read "Oh the Places You'll Go" to us at snack time. Yesterday we read Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Today was the first day we did all of math workshop! Ms. Frederich called our names to go to the table and do math. We played games too while we waited. We did iPads. We learned if a number is even or odd.
We had an intruder drill. We pretended a stranger is in the building, There was not really an intruder in the building. We sat down and were quiet in the back of the room. Ms. Frederich locked the door and turned off the lights. The pretend intruder was wearing a white shirt, black jeans, and a cowboy hat. We practiced an intruder drill so we know what to do if there actually is an intruder.
In writing workshop we wrote about things we already know. We wrote about butterflies, art, and kickball.
