This has been a fantastic week of learning! I am so proud of all we have accomplished this week. We spent a lot of time learning how to do things the 2nd grade way.
Another friendly reminder, please return any school forms that were sent home on Open House Night. This includes the Enrollment Verification, Early Release Transportation, Emergency Medical consent, Handbook Acknowledgment
Curriculum Night for 2nd Grade is Thursday at 6:00-6:30. I hope to see everyone there!
Here is a small look at what we did this week:
Our First Full Week
By Ms. Frederich's 2nd Graders
Morning Meeting
Morning meeting is when we meet and greet each other with different types of handshakes. We did the floppy fish greeting, we shook hands, we did howdy-do-high-fives, we did the Japanese bow, and we greeted each other in Spanish! We also did a yarn game - we told our favorite part of summer vacation and then threw the yarn across the circle to make a spider web.
Math Workshop
We learned about place value. We wrote digits, expanded form, and made numbers with blocks. We learned how to work with partners during Math Workshop. We did a card game and a dice game with our partners.
Social Studies
We learned about maps. We made a compass rose . The directions are North, South, East, and West. Wednesday we used a grid map to make a zoo.
Writing Workshop
We worked on building our writing muscles and our writing stamina by writing in our journals. We wrote all kinds of stories and information.
Daily 5
We are building our stamina! Reading is thinking!
We also learned about the Listen to Reading Choice and TumbleBooks.
In music we are learning about rhythm and the 7 Habits Song
In art we drew different places.
In PE we played zoo keeper tag outside.
